VA Certificate of Eligibility

Becoming pre-qualified for a VA home loan is the first step to be taken in the loan process. When you become pre-qualified you must then complete the VA Form 26-1880 to obtain your Certificate of Eligibility. You can receive your Certificate of Eligility through a private lender for free with assistance in a simple request with the VA Form 26-1880.

The VA determines your eligility when you apply for a VA home loan. If the VA determines that you are eligible they will issue you the Certificate of Eligibility used when applying for the VA loan request. The VA adjustable rate or fixed rate loans require this Certificate of Eligibility but there are other reasons that may require the Certificate as well:

  • An original determination of eligibility for the veteran loan
  • A request to replace a lost certificate of eligibility
  • A request for restoration of the Loan benefit after payment in full of a previous VA home loan
  • Issuance of a certificate reflecting current outstanding veteran loans for refinance purposes

When the loan request is completed you will then be contacted by a VA home loan specialist to determine that all the information collected is correct before the request for a VA loan certificate is made. The overall goal of the loan specialist is to determine which option would be best for you whether that be a VA adjustable rate loan or a fixed rate loan.

The Department of Veterans Affairs can give you more information and is the official site of Veterans Affairs. However, they do not provide the VA Loan but merely secure the loans. There are many VA Loan Mortgage companies out there that are willing to assist you in any possible and provide the best service possible. Do some research and find the best loan company for you.
